INCOME-QUALIFIED ELIGIBILITY & SAVINGS

SUBSCRIBER VERIFICATION & ELIGIBILITY

All current solar facilities in the New Mexico Community Solar Program have reserved 50% of their capacity for low-income subscribers, which includes both income-qualified households and low-income serving non-profits. An income qualified household is able to receive greater monthly discounts than a non-income qualified household.

Income qualification for a household can be done in two ways:

1. Program Participation — A household qualifies if  the utility bill owner is currently enrolled in any of the following programs:

  • Medicaid;

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP);

  • Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP);

  • Living in a low-income/affordable housing facility

OR

2. Income Level — a household can qualify if the utility bill owner’s annual income is less than 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), which can be determined using these tables.

SAVINGS FOR INCOME-QUALIFIED HOUSEHOLDS

Subscribers will receive two bills each month:

  • A discounted electricity bill from your utility

  • A subscription bill from your community solar provider

Despite receiving two bills, your total monthly cost will be less than your current electricity bill.

Ads may mention up to a 28% discount, but that rate applies only to income-qualified households & only to the energy portion of the bill offset by solar. Most income-qualified customers can expect to save 15-20% on their total annual electricity costs.
